Insect Classification

Students are introduced to several different orders of insects and learn how they differ in their appearance, behaviour, lifecycles and ecology.

A specially designed dichotomous key will help students to classify provided insect specimens into various orders, giving them the opportunity to work with some unique Australian insects.  This is a fun, hands-on workshop that illustrates the use of dichotomous keys in science and introduces key concepts and terminology for the classification of organisms.

This is a great program for Year 7 students doing the Organising Organisms C2C unit, or the Year 3 Feathers, Fur & Leaves program for Primary Connections.
